It certifies the performances of coatingsystems for the protection of wood for exterior use. The coating systems are subjected to a specific programme of tests and evaluated according to the relevant technical standards (EN 927). Additional verifications, such as the assessment of the effectiveness against biological aggression, the assessment of blocking and the permeability to light, make the product certification a comprehensive verification tool that covers all the main technical characteristics typically required for these products.
How it works. CATAS inspectors visit the company’s plant annually to make inspection and sampling. The samples collected are applied and then subjected to the required laboratory tests. The main test is 1 year of natural and artificial weathering which can be extended to 2 years for the further PLUS recognition. The company is required to carry out internal controls for each type of certified coating system, as defined in the regulations, and to send the results to CATAS.
